Comparing Flood Hazard Maps

While the FEMA issued National Flood Hazard  Layer (NFHL) contains the flood data which corresponds to the regulatory framework of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), there are multiple flood hazard maps and map layers for any given site. FEMA issued flood hazard maps are continuously revised and updated based on data from observed weather records and trends. Other flood hazard maps, such as those created by SCR, introduce projective climate data in an effort to account for climate change when determining the extent of storm floods in the future. To illustrate the differences among maps–and the processes used to make them–several flood hazard maps for each site are layered below.
